Record

Within the Records Management context of SharePoint, a Record is content that is maintained in an official, stable state.  The content of a Record must remain protected, and the content of a Record must remain static.  Records tend to have associated management policies ranging from standard to custom.  Some examples of Records Management policies can be based on any of the following:

Records Management in SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) is anything but straight forward. My group has been working on this for two years and are not sure yet how we are going tohandle it. We are going to be working with custom content types as part of the solution. We have looked at several off the shelf solutions but most of them are overkill and for the size of our community (200,000) to expensive.
