For Part II in the SharePoint Licensing Update series, I have put together eight different licensing scenarios and detailed the requisite licensing for each.  Again, I've updated an old posting that I did shortly after the product first came out. As you may or may not know, the product originally did not allow an internal facing version of SharePoint to be installed on the same farm as an external facing site. Microsoft made many exceptions to their licensing to allow this on an as-needed basis, so Microsoft finally changed the SharePoint licensing model to allow a single farm to host an Internet, and Extranet, and an Intranet solution (finally!).

Below you will find a variety of scenarios that detail many different configurations for SharePoint. These scenarios detail only the products that you will need to purchase to run these environments and the details listed about these scenarios are limited to Windows, SQL, and SharePoint licenses. These scenarios do not detail antivirus software, backup software, management software, or any other ITC-type software packages.

Scenario A.  WSS Intranet Site.  Stand Alone Server. Corporate, internal-only use for 20 employees. Single server configuration running only WSS 3 on the included SQL Express.

1. Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition License
2. Windows Server 2003 CAL, 20-pack

Scenario B.  WSS Internet Site.  Stand Alone Server. Internet use, single server configuration running WSS 3.

1. Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition License
2. Windows Server 2003 External Connector License

Scenario C.  MOSS Intranet Site.  Stand Alone Server.  Corporate, internal-only use for 20 employees.  All employees only using Standard Edition functionality.  Single server configuration running only MOSS on the included SQL Express.

1. Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition License
2. Twenty (20) Windows Server 2003 CALs
3. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
4. Twenty (20) MOSS CALs, Standard Edition

Scenario D.  MOSS Intranet Site.  Two Server Farm.  Corporate use for 20 employees, two (2) server configuration with web server running MOSS 2007 and database server running SQL 2005.  For this sample configuration, all 20 employees will utilize MOSS Standard features, while only 10 of these employees will utilize Enterprise features.

1. Two(2) Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition Licenses, 1 web and 1 database server.
2. Twenty (20) Windows Server 2003 CALs
3. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
4. Twenty (20) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CALs
5. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
6. Twenty (20) MOSS CALs, Standard Edition
7. Ten (10) MOSS CALs, Enterprise Edition

Scenario E: MOSS Intranet and Extranet Site(s). Single Farm consisting of both public facing Internet site and Corporate use site for 20 employees, two (2) server configuration with web server running MOSS 2007 and database server running SQL 2005.  For this sample configuration, all 20 employees will utilize Enterprise features.   NOTE: This environment requires both MOSS and MOSSFIS.

1. Two(2) Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition Licenses, 1 web and 1 database server.
2. Twenty (20) Windows Server 2003 CALs
3. Windows Server 2003 External Connector License
4. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition - Processor License (no CALs required)
5. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Internet Sites (MOSSFIS)
6. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS)
7. Twenty (20) MOSS CALs, Standard Edition
8. Twenty (20) MOSS CALs, Enterprise Edition

Scenario F: MOSS Internet-Only Site, two (2) server configuration with web server running MOSS 2007 and database server running SQL 2005.

1. Two(2) Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition Licenses, 1 web and 1 database server.
2. Windows Server 2003 External Connector License
3. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition - Processor License (no CALs required)
4. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Internet Sites (MOSSFIS)

Scenario G: MOSS Internet-Only Site, five (5) server farm configuration running MOSS 2007 and SQL 2005.  For this sample configuration, there are 2 SQL, 2 MOSS front-end, and 1 MOSS backend (Index).

1. Five(5) Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition Licenses, 2 web, 1 app, and 2 database server.
2. Two (2) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition - Processor Licenses (no CALs required
3. Three (3) Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Internet Sites (MOSSFIS)
4. Two (2) Windows Server 2003 External Connector Licenses

Scenario H: MOSS Internet, Intranet, and Extranet Sites, five (5) server farm configuration running MOSS 2007 and SQL 2005.  For this sample configuration, all 20 employees will utilize Enterprise features on this farm consisting of 2 SQL, 2 MOSS front-end, and 1 MOSS backend (Index).

1. Five(5) Windows Server 2003  R2 Standard Edition Licenses, 2 web, 1 app, and 2 database server.
